Amina Motzer: Get two pieces of rightly sized wood (you can either paint them or not) and some super glue, rope and two bells. Drill holes in the center of the two peices. ( 1 on the top peice, 3 (in a diag. design) on the bottom) and slide the rope through the holes. Then take two bells (you can do this with one, but your parakeet actually will enjoy more with the more bells you have) and super glue them to the bottom piece of wood on the two outer holes you drilled. You can tie a knot but super glueing the wood makes for a sturdier toy. Take either a picture hanger or a clip of some sort with a closeable end. Attach one end to the top of the rope, the other to either the side or the top (would work better on top.) And there is your homemade hanging toy. Hope this helps! (:...Show more
Thomas Riner: First you should find out what he likes to play with. Let him out of the house and see what he likes to pick on. It will be easier to make something he likes. I never ! buy toys and pet stores because I find them expensive, and I don't know if it is safe with all that colours and stuff. Sometimes they ignore the toys, or might even get scared of it. I make simpe, destroyable toys from paper rolls, newspaper and stuff like that. My birds like strings, so adding it will make it more interesting. You can get a tree branch and make toys from that. Find something like bells or other stuff you don't use. Use a scizzor and cut different shaped figures. You could can do it with fruits too....Show more
Keneth Mailhot: Try this site for loads of cheap home-made bird toys:http://www.birdsnways.com/birds/ideas.htmWhen making toys for birds, make sure any metal is NOT nickel or lead. If you are using leather, make sure it's vegetable tanner leather, and any dyes used are vegetable dye. There are many substances that are very toxic to birds....Show more
