Unsuccessful car repair advice?

Ervin Overbee: On my car, the latch controls the window lift function for when the door opens and closes, it also works the locks, and it suctions in the door. It's called a self close assist. When you barely close the door, the pump takes over and sucks the door in fully to ensure a snug close. The pump works fine. The latch doesn't have leaks and works fine too, but there's a mechanical click that has to happen for it to activate the suction, but it doesn't do the click. I asked the mechanic to check out all this before putting it in, and he did supposedly....Show more

Marty Tichnell: Your question is "What do you think?" I think I would close the door myself instead of paying a $300 repair bill in the first place.Go back to where you bought the used part for a refund. The mechanic did not sell it to you or guarantee that it is good he only installed it. Maybe something is burning the unit up as you state that you went through 3 non-working parts. If your car is! ruining these parts are you going to give back the money to the seller?...Show more

Oscar Wieland: The units aren't being burned by my car, they just had air leaks inside of them since they're from mid 90's. We hooked it up to the vacuum system and the first 2 attempts were due to a shady mechanic that just wanted my money. The third one is my reputable mechanic that I always go to, he checked the part out and it was fine, he didn't notice the mechanical issue though, he checked for leaks only (which it didn't have). The car has never and still doesn't have any short circuits that would ruin the part. Age of the parts is what's failing at this point....Show more

Gwenda Micheals: And thank you for the opinion, the stuff that's not working is mechanical, not electric. All the units had mechanical issues, not electrical.
