Joel Feagler: Inexpensive is a problem. FLL to SoBeCab fare is $2.00 + 2.40 a mile + tip. A cab should run some $80+. Unfortunately FLL does not have a single service shuttle that picks up at all arrivals all the time with uniform rates. If you do a search for "FLL Airport transportation" you get to the web sites for half a dozen or more shuttle services that want you to call ahead & reserve. Rates vary but run about $35.00 a person or so to SoBe. Coconut Grove has less demand & so may be more $$. Tri-County Airport express "shared ride" advertises $18.00 a person to SoBe -- has dispatchers downstairs outside arrivals. You don't reserve but have to wait for them to show up & fill their van with people going where you are. Don't know if they go to the Grove. The Tri-Rail option: The Tri Rail service is a good option if you're on a tight budget [About $4.00 a person each way]& have no more than 3 bags per person & have the time and the right timing. You pick up the free T! ri-rail shuttle bus at the bus stop which is outside to the left of arrivals. They take you to the Dania Beach Tri Rail station where you buy tickets & board for the Tri Rail. Take Tri-rail south to the MetroRail transfer station in Miami. There get on the MetroRail (another train) [$1.50 person] and then take that to Coconut Grove Station. Unfortunately the station is not IN Coconut Grove but north of it. From there you can take a cab to downtown Grove for a few dollars (Its no more than 2 miles or so) or a metro-Bus for $1.50. There may even be a Grove Shuttle from the station into the Grove for less. For bus info go to: www.co.miami-dade.fl.us/transit/Tri-rail is a commuter line that runs on the half hour morning & afternoon; hour during mid-day; every two hours on weekends & not at all from about 10PM to 5AM....Show more
Peter Lapoint: Broward County (Ft. Lauderdale) and Miami-Dade Country public transportation systems have several points where passengers can! transfer from one system to the other. I know that Dade Metro! rail has a station near Coconut Grove, but you'll have to look up the bus to take you the rest of the way. Google "Broward County bus schedule" and "Miami-Dade County bus schedule" for system maps, schedules, fare into, etc.
