Movie who killed the electric car?

Oscar Wieland: Some years ago their was a man by the name of Tucker. He named the automible "The Tucker." It had 4 wheel disc brakes, rear engine, rack and pinion steering, cushioned or padded dash board and the handling of a sports car in a large car body. He also had headlights, one in a cyclops design and the headlight turned to right or left based on the direction the car was headed. This car was built in the 40's against the wishes of the Big 3, Ford, Chrysler and General Motors. Along with the U.S. Government "The Tucker" was to good to be true. It was stifled in large part to the lack of cooperation from the powers that be. Today, you see Toyota has headlights to help see around the corners in the Lexus brand. Porshe continues to make a living off of rear engined cars that handle beyond expectations. Now 4 wheel disc brakes are largely expected, though the first Cadillac Escalade had front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. The Tucker was way out front, doesn'! t this seem obvious? Believe it or not, in a related matter to your question, their was a genius by the name of Nikola Tesla. Lately, you may have heard in California their is an all electric sports car called "The Tesla". Nikola Tela was a recluse genius who found a way to harness electricity at no cost to the end user and kept copious notes on his quadratic equations and formulas. He was a pure scientist. His nearest competitor Westinghouse had spent his resources on Direct Current, Tesla on the other hand proved indirect current we know as Alternate Current. In the late 1800's Tesla caused an earth shaking explosion from his little apartment. As the story goes, The United States Government went to his apartment and took all of his notes and closely guarded secrets. Tesla died a broken man. Westinghouse, wound up doing pretty good for himself because Tesla's work was deposited into the waiting arms of .......Westinghouse. So you know all about Westinghouse, but Tes! la is more of a mystery. To your question about the electric ! car. Those who benefit most want to control the next thing that comes along, so they scheme the public and tell you what is possible and what the cost will be because of their business interests. Now I know scheme may seem like a dirty word, so let's make that a more palatable phrase called product cycle. Their is a coordination of vehicle and energy product cycles controlled by business and overseen by governments and insurance companies. These entities must be lined up in a confguration that everyone gets a cut, or a good idea will be stalled until they do. Meanwhile they will come together so to speak and provide alternative fuels, hybrid engines which enrichens the industry as we get closer to the silver bullet and their is one. Who killed the market? The usual suspects. Let me leave you with this thought, man walked on the moon in the 60's and has since established Space Stations for more than 2 decades orbiting the earth. The first space vehicle was solar powere! d on the moon. Space stations use solar power with battery power under extreme conditions. If you listen to the rhetoric, the industries minus Toyota acts as if this is new. It can be done, today, and it has been done for years and all of the car manufacturers are in on this capability in one way shape or form....Show more

Estrella Northway: pretty simple, big oil has a very, very big appetite. it's facinating to see some electric hybrids coming out now. The Telsa Roadster, Saturn Vue Plug In and private companies tinkering with Toyota Prius'. They can get over 100 MPG! They aren't cheap but eventually the price of those lithium-ion batteries will be reasonable.

Babette Deloe: think about it. gas companys. have money right. well why don't they just buy the patens to electric cars so nobody will build them. you ever think about that. well back in the 70's a man in arkansas built a carb for a for ltd big car. that would get over 100 mpg. well he started telling! everyone about it what happened he got a knock on the door from our lo! vely gas companys. the bout the rights to it. and destoryed it and payed him to not tell anyone how he did it. i remember a little chevy or geo car that would get like 60 70 miles per gallon. they don't make it anymore. hmm wonder why. well the government and dot could tell car companys they have to get 40 to 50 miles to the gallon. and car companys could make cars do this. now electric cars are starting to come back and everyone wants one so the gas companys say we know that we can no buy them all now and the government is fixing to crack down on it sooner or later so lets raise gas prices and make all the money we can while we still can. this is my opion of how the whole thing works and i think this is true....Show more

May Stands: No one bought GM's electric car because it did not last long before the nest recharge and it was expensive and ugly. But, GM is bring back the electric car.It is coming out next year for $35,000. It will be called the Chevy Volt.
